About Teresa Rice, MD

Teresa C. Rice, MD, FACS is a board-certified, fellowship-trained abdominal transplant surgeon with advanced expertise in robotic surgery and living donor transplantation. She is certified in liver, kidney, pancreas, and hepatobiliary surgery and provides comprehensive care for patients with end-stage organ disease.

Dr. Rice's clinical practice includes a focus on robotic techniques in abdominal transplantation, with expertise in robotic donor nephrectomy. She has led institutional efforts to integrate robotic surgery into transplant care and has delivered national lectures on surgical innovation. Her interests also include prehabilitation to optimize and personalize patient care before transplant, as well as the use of liver perfusion technology to expand access to transplantation.

Dr. Rice earned her undergraduate degree from Duke University and her medical degree from Case Western Reserve University. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati, where she developed an early interest in surgical education and innovation. She went on to complete a fellowship in multi-organ abdominal transplant and hepatobiliary surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. She also completed the Surgical Education Research Fellowship (SERF) through the Association for Surgical Education.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Rice is committed to advancing surgical education and improving access to transplant. She has been involved in developing robotic training pathways for surgical trainees and is an active member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS), contributing to national efforts in surgical quality, curriculum design, and patient-centered care.
